AI Policy & Production Process

"The man who tends such a machine is impervious to every form of aesthetic inspiration, whether of human or of genuinely spiritual origin.”

We don't use AI

At Teaching Machines, we ARE interested in AI, fascinated even and believe it has many useful purposes across multiple disciplines but when it comes to product design and development we like to do that ourselves. It's a lot more fun that way.

Through our own music production experience, we know what does or doesn't work in the studio. What tools get used every day and what sits gathering dust. We attempt to spot gaps in the market and try to think of cool, useful products that could fill them. Then we enjoy ourselves as we design and build them.

We believe in our own ability to think of meaningful and interesting solutions to design and production problems. We design both formally and by experiment, trying and listening to circuits and building up the design iteratively. Having an AI bypass these stages would also bypass the listening and tweaking, so while its solution might technically work, it would not sound or feel exactly how we would want it to.

As with any new technology there are always positives and negatives, dangers and benefits. As a species we are still discovering what these are.

As individuals here at Teaching Machines, we are notoriously 'late adopters'. One day we may use AI but for now we are holding off and enjoying the creative process.
